9:111
۞ ان الله اشترى من المومنين انفسهم واموالهم بان لهم الجنة يقاتلون في سبيل الله فيقتلون ويقتلون وعدا عليه حقا في التوراة والانجيل والقران ومن اوفى بعهده من الله فاستبشروا ببيعكم الذي بايعتم به وذالك هو الفوز العظيم ١١١
۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱشْتَرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَمْوَٰلَهُم بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلْجَنَّةَ ۚ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَيَقْتُلُونَ وَيُقْتَلُونَ ۖ وَعْدًا عَلَيْهِ حَقًّۭا فِى ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ وَٱلْإِنجِيلِ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚ وَمَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِعَهْدِهِۦ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَٱسْتَبْشِرُوا۟ بِبَيْعِكُمُ ٱلَّذِى بَايَعْتُم بِهِۦ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ١١١
۞ إِنَّ
ٱللَّهَ

ٱلۡجَنَّةَۚ
يُقَٰتِلُونَ

ٱللَّهِ
فَيَقۡتُلُونَ
وَيُقۡتَلُونَۖ
وَعۡدًا
عَلَيۡهِ
حَقّٗا
فِي
ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِ
وَٱلۡإِنجِيلِ
وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِۚ
وَمَنۡ
أَوۡفَىٰ
بِعَهۡدِهِۦ
مِنَ
ٱللَّهِۚ
فَٱسۡتَبۡشِرُواْ
بِبَيۡعِكُمُ
ٱلَّذِي
بَايَعۡتُم
بِهِۦۚ
وَذَٰلِكَ
هُوَ
ٱلۡفَوۡزُ
ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
١١١
Allah has indeed purchased from the believers their lives and wealth in exchange for Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah and kill or are killed. This is a true promise binding on Him in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran. And whose promise is truer than Allah’s? So rejoice in the exchange you have made with Him. That is ˹truly˺ the ultimate triumph.

فَيَقْتُلُونَ وَيُقْتَلُونَ
fa-yaqtulūna wa-yuqtalūna
“they kill and are killed”
i.e. they fight even to the point of death.
فَيُقْتَلُونَ وَيَقْتُلُونَ
fa-yuqtalūna wa-yaqtulūna
“they are killed and they kill”
i.e. some are killed, and the rest fight on.

Explanation

These readings amount to the same meaning, as verbs conjoined by wāw do not necessarily denote sequence in time. If they are taken to denote that, each reading conveys a different nuance [al-Mahdawi].
