O Children of Israel! We saved you from your enemy, and made an appointment with you1 on the right side of Mount Ṭûr, and sent down to you manna and quails,2
“We rescued you...and We made a pledge with you...We have provided for you”
In these two readings, Allah speaks of Himself with the first-person majestic plural. Forms III (wāʿadnā) and I (waʿadnā) convey the same meaning, though the first contains a sense of mutuality of the pledge.
أَنْجَيۡتُكُم - وَوَاعَدۡتُّكُمۡ - رَزَقۡتُكُمۡ
anjaytukum - wa-wāʿadtukum - razaqtukum
“I rescued you...and I made a pledge with you...I have provided for you”
In this reading, Allah speaks with the first person singular pronoun, as in the remainder of ayah 81.
